Tell us more!

We asked Rachel to answer a few questions for us. Here are his thoughtful responses.

What do you like about working for 729?

I love the fact that everyone is open and friendly. The people at 729 go out of their way to ensure people feel welcomed, and they are always available to answer any questions. They talk about being a family and that is evident by the way they support each other and how they ensure newcomers feel welcomed.

What are your hobbies?

I love to grill and smoke just about any meat there is. There’s nothing more peaceful than being on a patio, grilling with the sun shining and the birds singing.

I also love to learn new things. As such you may find me crocheting one day and working on cars the next. I’m currently studying how to read and write Korean and have dabbled in making a few Korean meals.

What are you doing to entertain yourself during COVID-19 Stay At Home orders?

I’m doing anything and everything to entertain myself. I believe the key to avoiding cabin fever is to vary your activities as much as possible; a lesson learned from spending many winters in Minnesota. To keep it interesting I’ve tried watching new and old shows, doing new workout routines, assembling puzzles, and playing video games (both on PC and Xbox).

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

My grandma would always say “Get up and get ready fast! Company may be coming over.” This way of thinking has saved me from embarrassing doorbell moments on many occasions in the past.

What advice would you give a candidate who wants to join our team of superstars?

Take the Zendesk training as soon as possible. Many of the projects that I manage have at least some work involving Zendesk. Knowing Zendesk backwards and forwards is critical to my abilities to work quickly and efficiently when advising clients and managing their projects. The faster you’re able to learn Zendesk, the easier your early days will go at 729.

Cats or dogs?

Dogs. 100 million percent dogs. Cats seem to have this attitude that we are here to serve them. Don’t get me wrong, I love cute kitten videos as much as the next person but they just don’t compare to the happy go lucky, always excited to see you, let’s see if my owner notices, attitude of dogs.

My German Shepherd, Sadie, has ruined me for any other animal. She is a rescue who shoved the other puppies out of the way to get to me and refused to leave my side until I took her with me. In the seven years we’ve been together, she’s protected me on multiple occasions. There’s nothing I can say that will express how thankful I am to have this amazing dog in my life.

What is your favorite word in the English language?

My favorite word is “tacos!” Why? Because it’s tacos! Who doesn’t love tacos?

What is your favorite word in another language?

My favorite word in another language is in Korean. The word is for a spicy Korean dish called “tteokbokki,” which I love because it’s fun to say and tastes amazing.

What is the most inspiring part of your job?

I’m one of the newest members of 729 Solutions. In the time I’ve been here I can honestly say I am inspired by the 729 family. Seeing how the team collaborates and moves together as a whole to satisfy a customer, and how a completely remote company ensures it’s “family members” are doing well is inspiring.

If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?

I would love to have the power of teleportation. The obvious reason is the ability to teleport myself anywhere instantly, however it can also be used to transfer large amounts of material. Imagine being able to move your stuff anywhere in the world without having to drive it. In addition, it would be a great asset in helping others by moving them out of danger instantly.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a volcanologist. I am fascinated by volcanoes; their power and their unpredictability. In hours they can completely destroy the area around them, but then beautiful plant life grows from the rich soil they leave behind.

If you were a pasta shape, what shape would you be and why?

I would say I am most like rotini. I’m silly and unusual, and I like to tell weird jokes or try out new hobbies that seem offbeat.

Is there anything else you’d like the world to know about you?

My favorite movie is The Crow with Brandon Lee and my favorite baseball team is the LA Dodgers.

The people at 729 go out of their way to ensure people feel welcomed, and are always available to answer any questions.
