Meet Nacho!

Doing employee spotlights means we get to showcase what a great team we have here at 729 Solutions. We truly are a bunch of creative and interesting individuals. This time Senior Developer Ignacio (Nacho) Canovi joins us to talk about playing and engineering music!

Tell me what you do here at 729 Solutions?

I’m a senior developer/technical leader. I write code, oversee the work that other developers do, and make decisions regarding the architecture, design, and quality of the software solutions we create.

How did you get into playing music?

Having a band was very common in the area where I grew up. There was a lot of influence on punk rock and DIY culture. So I started a band with a couple of friends from school without even knowing how to play.

I am guessing heavy metal is one of your favorite types of music, what else do you enjoy listening to?

I listen to all kinds of music. Heavy music is something special to me because of nostalgic reasons. It was what I listened to the most while I was growing up, and I met a lot of friends through it. But I like artists regardless of the genre they play. There is a lot of heavy stuff I don’t like and some pop artists that I love (I just won’t admit that in front of my metalhead friends).

Does any other kind of music influence the music you play?

As I was saying, I listen to a lot of different genres, and every one of those influences me in one way or the other. When I started playing I listened to a lot of bluesy-early rock, so that was a huge influence on the way I play. Now I listen to a lot of R&B and soul, which influences the way I create music.

How often do you get to play guitar live these days?

Not that often anymore. If someone invites me to play I’ll do it, but nowadays, I enjoy listening to other people play and making sure everything sounds good.

Do you have a favorite experience getting to play metal live?

Being a kid and playing in front of very surprised grown-up metalheads that were not expecting 13-year-olds to play Black Sabbath songs.

Do you play any other instruments?

Not really. I played some other instruments over the years for fun, but I was never serious about any of them.

Can you talk about music production and sound engineering and explain how you are doing that?

It goes back to the DIY attitude from when I was a kid. Back then we couldn’t afford any type of recording so I started playing with all the software I could get to record and edit music, just learning by trial and error. I always liked helping friends by editing and mixing their demos. Nowadays is the same thing. I create my own stuff, but I usually like to help other people and work around their ideas, even if it’s just a simple chord progression or a melody.

Do you have any other interesting hobbies that you want to share?

I started getting into DIY electronics a couple of years ago. I have already played with some Arduino projects, but I really started getting into it after I found Adafruit and some other similar sites. I don’t have the time I would like to dedicate to it, but I’m always trying to build some gadgets that I can use to play music.

Do you enjoy cooking?

Cooking and food is really not my thing. I wish I know more about cooking, but I’m terrible at it.

Anything else you would like the world to know about yourself or your work?

Not really. I think that’s enough about me for now?

I’m always trying to build some gadgets that I can use to play music.
